Abstract:

In order to describe a nucleon-nucleus (N-nucleus) scattering problem starting from a realistic N-N interaction, a method is proposed to derive complex effective interactions between an incident nucleon and nucleons in a target nucleus analogously to the effective interaction theory in bound state problems. S-wave phase shifts and absorption coefficients are calculated in the case of N-16O scattering. The former are directly compared with the experimental phase shifts in the low-energy region. Starting energy dependence of our complex effective interaction is found to be important for N-nucleus scattering in the higher-energy region.
