Abstract:

The α-decay widths of the ground band of 20Ne are investigated with two models: One is the deformed harmonic oscillator model and the other is the mixed model of the cluster and deformed models. The reduced α-widths calculated in the deformed model are too small for the 6+ state and in good agreement with experiment for the 8+ state. In the mixed model calculation we investigate the effect of mixing on the α-widths through two factors, the reduced α-width and the penetration factor. The effect of mixing is found to be small in 20Ne. We have encountered a difficult problem concerning effective forces which are to be used in such a mixed basis calculation as the present study.
