Abstract:
The radiative K-µ decay is analysed as a means of obtaining information on the properties of the muon and Q. E. D. at small distances and (or) on the type of the weak Fermi interaction. To express modifications of the properties of the muon and of Q. E. D. at small distances cut-off factors are used. If we use, for example, Feynman's cut-off factor with cut-off radius (1/Λ) \gtrsim 0.3 × 10-13 cm, it is shown that the effects of these modifications may be measurable with the present experimental techniques, provided that the values of the axial vector and vector coupling constants are greater than or equal to that of the tensor coupling constant: |CA| ≈ |CV| ≥ |CT|. If |CT| > |CA| ≈ |CV| and (1/Λ) < 0.3 × 10-13 cm, on the contrary, the effects of the tensor interaction are measurable. When (1/Λ) ≥ 0.3 × 10-13 cm and |CT| > |CA| ≈ |CV|, it is hard to distinguish these two effects.
