Abstract:

The γ-3π vertex interaction is discussed in order to understand the steep rising of the total cross section for the γ+ pp + π+ + π- reaction up to Eγ≈550 Mev. The static theory, which includes the final (3, 3) resonance state interaction and the source function for the nucleon, is used. The E1 →sp3/2 transition is assumed to be large. The meson and nucleon current interactions have small contributions. The so-called interaction current is not enough to explain this steepness. By adding the γ-3π interaction term, we can reproduce the sharp rising if the order of magnitude of the γ-3π coupling constant (λ) is |λ| ∼0.088, which is not inconsistent with the value estimated from other phenomena. We discuss about experiments to test our assumptions made in this paper.
