Abstract:

In a previous paper, we have shown that, by introducing a scalar neutral Yukawa field (C-meson field) as the field of cohesive force of charged particles, the electromagnetic self-energy of elementary particles can be made finite at least in the second approximation of perturbation theory. The introduction of this new field, however, gives rise to new phenomena immediately comparable with experiment, so we must examine whether or not these are reconcilable with our experience heretofore. These phenomena may be classified into two types; one due to the appearance of an elementary particle, the C-meson, adjoint to the new field, and the other due to the deviation from the Coulomb law. Representative among the former are the creation of C-mesons by photons, and the process in which a C-meson is emitted instead of a photon in Bremsstrahlung, while the latter should show effects in the shifting of spectrallines and the anomalous scattering of charged particles.
