The (d, α) Reaction and Cluster Structure of Light Nuclei

— the O16(d, α)N14 reaction —

Abstract:

The O16(d, α0)N14 (ground state) and the O16(d, α2)N14 (2nd excited state) reactions are analysed in the energy region from Ed=14.5 MeV to 19.6 MeV in terms of both the pick-up and heavy-particle stripping reactions without introducing any energy dependent adjustable parameters.
The cross section is calculated by formulae derived previously under the cutoff Born approximation and by adopting the ratios of the reduced widths calculated from the harmonic oscillator shell model. The magnitudes of the reduced widths are determined from the experiment.
Good agreement is obtained concerning overall behavior of the differential cross sections. In particular, the ratio of the cross sections leading to different states of the residual nucleus is reasonably accounted for by the analysis.
