Potential Models of Nuclear Forces at Small Distances

(Received August 30, 1967)

Abstract:

Recently the small distance behavior of nuclear forces has been brought to light in connection with the interaction of elementary particles and the structure of atomic nuclei. Several potential models are presented, where potentials have the tail of the one-pion-exchange potential (OPEP) and different forms at small distances. Potential parameters representing the medium-range interaction are chosen by taking account of the results obtained by the one-boson-exchange model and the dispersion-theoretic approach. Possible ambiguities at small distances, which cannot be resolved from the present experimental information, are discussed. Also, phenomenological potentials, which can be substituted for such realistic potentials and used conveniently in calculations of finite nuclei, are given in the form of the superposition of three-range Gaussian terms.
