Abstract:

A theoretical study is made on the mechanism of the nuclear magnetic spin-lattice relaxation in solid ortho-hydrogen below Tλ. The predominant mechanism assumed is the inelastic scattering of the rotational excitation waves by the nuclear magnetic moment of ortho-hydrogen. The calculation of the thermal transition probability and relaxation time T1 is carried out following the same line as in the case of antiferromagnetics. The temperature dependence of T1 is obtained numerically. The result shows that T1≃10 ∼100 sec at Tλ.
