Abstract:

Making use of the time dependent Ginzburg Landau equations, we study microscopically the resistive behavior of the intermediate state in a type I superconductor. We show that an electric field induces a uniform motion of the order parameter (or the vortex lines) in the perpendicular direction to the static magnetic field and to the electric field. The motion of the vortex lines results in the resistivity as well as a large Ettingshausen effect of the intermediate state. In particular in the low field region (i.e. BHc(T), where B is the induction and Hc(T) is the critical field) the explicit expressions of the flow resistivity and the entropy carried by unit flux of vortices are obtained.
