Abstract:

The method of collective description presented in a previous paper is applied to obtain the energy spectrum of liquid helium. For lower wave numbers than a cutoff wave number q0, the energy shift from the Feynman spectrum is obtained by using a renormalization method. For higher wave numbers than q0, our result resembles that of Bohm and Salt, and the difference between these two results is investigated numerically for a simplified model Hamiltonian. Discussion is made on the pair states of particles which are considered important in relation to the recent experiment of Woods and Cowley.
