Abstract:
Consistency conditions on the discondinuity across the self-reproducing Pomeron are investigated by the use of modified Reggeon-unitarity conditions for coupled channels. Under the assumption of a standard parametrization of discontinuity, it is shown that the cut strength is factorizable in the immediate neighbourhood of the Pomeranchuk branch point, and that the divergent self-reproducing Pomeron is consistent with the coupled-channel unitarity. It is also argued that unique determination of the cut strength of the Pomeron will be impossible on the self-consistency basis of the universality of the Pomeron and the coupled channel unitarity. All of these properties are irrespective of whether the Pomeron is a fixed branch cut or a pair of colliding branch cuts.
