Abstract:

The structure of the peculiar excited levels in 12C and 16O are investigated by analysing the decay widths of these levels which have been usually assumed to have the linear chainlike structure of the α particles. In the analyses of the decay widths all the two body breakup channels are taken into considerations. The theoretical calculations of the reduced width ampliutudes are done by using the Bloch-Brink type wave functions. For 12C, the comparison between the theory and experiments showed that the pure linear chain configuration is inappropriate to explain the large experimental widths. On the other hand, for 16O, the present experimental informations on widths are understood not to be inconsistent with the assumption of the linear chain structure.
