Abstract:

Ferromagnetism in perfect crystals with the inversion symmetry is investigated on the basis of certain non-relativistic models for magnetic carriers. The models are characterized by the following simplifications; 1) the magnetic carriers are completely separated from the other constituents of the ferromagnets and 2) the exchange integrals between the atomic orbitals belonging to different unit cells are ignored. In other respects, the models are fairly general. Intra-atomic exchange integrals associated with the Hund coupling are retained. By varying parameters of the models, we may or may not be able to obtain the ground states of complete electron spin alignment. It is shown rigorously that complete ferromagnetism, if obtained, should inevitably be accompanied by the vanishing exchange stiffness of the spin wave spectrum, provided that the ground state of complete ferromagnetism is quasi-nondegenerate and a thermodynamic limit is required to exist. The result seems to suggest that such complete ferromagnetism is impossible.
