Abstract:

Freundlich and Lurié's model of the spontaneous breakdown of the chiral-gauge invariance is consistently formulated as an indefinite-metric quantum field theory on the basis of the Landau-gauge quantum electrodynamics. Though Freundlich and Lurié concluded the nonexistence of the massless Goldstone bosons, it cannot be valid as was criticized by Aurilia, Takahashi and Umezawa. It is clearly demonstrated that the massless Goldstone bosons are present as unphysical quanta and that the theory is manifestly covariant contrary to the result of Aurilia, Takahashi and Umezawa. The generator of the chiral-gauge transformation is explicitly expressed in terms of in-fields without any approximation.
