Abstract:

A new variational method is proposed on the basis of the multiple scattering theory. The new method settles difficulty in constructing a trial wave function in the presence of the repulsive core and the strong tensor force of realistic potentials. The D-state function has a form much different from Jastrow's one. Derrick and Blatt's expansion of the wave function is made. The Hamada-Johnston (H-J) and the Tamagaki (OPEH and OPEG) potentials are employed. The upper-bound energies for the triton are found to be -6.0 MeV for H-J, -6.59 MeV for OPEH and -6.64 MeV for OPEG. Detailed contributions to the interaction energy are calculated. The tensor force in the triplet-even state has the largest contribution and in the case of H-J, nonstatic forces have contribution of about -3 MeV. The new method is powerful in solving the three-nucleon problem with realistic potentials.
