Abstract:

It is shown that the so-called Okubo ansatz and Iizuka rule in the quark model are not applicable to reduced matrix elements involving isoscalar 0-mesons, whereas their generalization to the SU(4) quartet scheme are very successful in describing unifiedly all vertices with isoscalar mesons. As a result, η(958) should not be assigned predominantly to the SU(4) singlet state, but rather to the 15-plet state in order to explain especially the suppression of η production compared with η in πN scattering. This leads us to that other symmetry breaking term than (4, 4*) ⊕ (4*, 4) must be considered in chiral SU(4) ×SU(4) scheme.
