Abstract:

Wave functions based on the alpha-particle model are investigated in a way different from Brink's approach. Relative wave functions between α-particles are constructed from translationally invariant harmonic-oscillator states with use of the fractional parentage coefficients. We attempt to apply the method developed here to systems of three and four α-particles that are of actual interest. The α-particle model approximated with the orthogonality condition model is shown to be a useful and manageable approach to study nuclear structure, especially α-clustering in nuclei and couplings of clustering states with shell-like states and so on.
