Abstract:

The nonlinear self-consistent equations for the fermion propagator are fully examined in the light of spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry in a vector-gluon model. The results obtained concerning the uniqueness of the solution are summarized in the form of theorems. These theorems demand that the spontaneous symmetry breaking occurs not for weak coupling, but for rather strong coupling. A comment is made on some attempts at the dynamical Higgs mechanism.
