Statistical Mechanics of Non-Equilibrium Systems. III

— Fluctuation and Relaxation of Quantal Macrovariables —

Abstract:

A general asymptotic evaluation method is presented for the fluctuation and relaxation of quantal macrovariables in non-equilibrium systems, by showing that the concept of Kubo's extensivity is effectively applicable, in a generalized form, even to quantal systems. This general method is applied to Bose systems and spin systems, particularly to superradiance. The fluctuation of the intensity of superradiant pulse is shown to be proportional to the cube of the number of the relevant atoms.
