Abstract:

A random magnetic mixture of the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic exchange integrals (bond model) is investigated by the use of the method of the distribution function, and the possibility of finding the `glass-like' phase (GLP) is suggested. The following magnetic properties concerned with the GLP are shown: (1) The spin arrangement of the GLP resembles that of the paramagnetic one, but each spin in the GLP is stable for the thermal disturbance, (2) the phase transition between the GLP and the paramagnetic phase is of higher order, (3) the susceptibility has a broad maximum. (4) the magnetization increases linearly with magnetic field with large slope at H ∼0. It is pointed out that the experimental results of CO(SxSe1-x)2 may suggest the existence of the GLP.
