The Large Angle Behavior of the Two-Body Reactions in a Peripheral Reaction Model

Abstract:

An asymptotic expression for large angle differential cross sections, dσ/dt\varproptoexp{-2×Imα(s)·θ}, in a simplified peripheral reaction model is compared with data. The gross behavior of energy and angular dependence of available data (0.50\lesssimpl\lesssim10(Gev/c)) of π±p elastic and charge exchange and K±p elastic and p±p elastic scattering is consistent with this expression. From the comparison with pp elastic scattering data, it is pointed out that the non-peripheral contributions from the lower partial waves become important for the large angle differential cross section for pl\gtrsim10 GeV/c.
