Abstract:

The spinor fields of the Thirring and Schwinger models, which are expressed in terms of asymptotic fields, cannot be transformed in the standard way under Lorentz transformations because their single vacuum expectation values are non-vanishing. The correct transformation formulae for those massless spinor fields are found explicitly. It is pointed out that the Thirring and Schwinger models cannot be the massless limits of the corresponding massive theories as long as asymptotic completeness is valid.
