Abstract:

Taking the string model as a realization of confinement, we investigate the role of string and junction (J) in large pT hadron production. Not only the flow of constituent q and junction J line but the motion of string and junction is explicitly examined for (i) the fragmentation processes ((a) (initial hadron)→(constituent q or J)+(spectator) and (b) (Constituent q or J)→(final hadron)+(spectator)) and (ii) the lowest subprocess. Two kinds of jet, q jet (with flavor) and J jet (without flavor), play a different role due to their different connection to strings. J jet is suggested to play an important role in large pT hadron production, especially anomalous behavior of proton production. The reaction πpmphX is investigated and the single particle distributions and jet distribution are predicted based on the analysis of pphX. The process πpmphX is suited to know the properties of the lowest subprocesses, e.g., crossing relation, because it contains all subprocesses (\hatD, \hatX and \hatH type) as the leading components, while the subprocess \hatH does not appear as the leading component in pphX. Beam ratio (pp →jet X)/(πp →jet X) is predicted. Hadron production (especially baryon production) in lhlhX is necessitated to reveal the origin of anomalous proton production in pphX.
