Possible Coexistence of Neutral and Charged Pion Condensations in Nuclear Medium

Abstract:

A possible mechanism of coexistent condensations of neutral and charged pions is proposed by extending the [ALS] (Alternating-Layer-Spin) model describing the π0 condensation so that the charged pion condensation is realized in neutron-rich matter. Condition for coexistence without conflict is that the momenta of the two condensates are perpendicular to each other. Model calculation by the use of the π-N P-wave interaction shows that in this extended model each condensation is essentially independent and the energy gain due to the phase transition from the Fermi gas is simply the sum of two contributions with the same order of magnitude.
