Abstract:
We investigate channel coupling effects in relation to the inelastic exotic resonances through the multi-channel N/D equation, bearing in mind the pp resonance problem. In two-channel case, phase shift of the first channel (δ1) always crosses 90° when the second channel has a bound state. In three-channel case, we can show that when the third channel has a bound state which is located above the second threshold, Argand plots draw a counter-clockwise circle and if δ1 (δ2) crosses 90°, δ2 (δ1) does not. It is further shown that according as the channel coupling strengths increase a resonance pole or a resonance-like behavior appears when any channel has no bound state. In order to phenomenologically settle the problem whether the resonance pole exists or not, it is suggested that not only elastic data but also inelastic data and elastic data of higher coupled system must be taken into account.
