Abstract:
Pseudo-critical phenomena near the stability limits of metastable ordered states are discussed on the basis of the Fisher-Domb cluster model for lattice gas systems. Scaling relations for pseudo-critical exponents are derived by considering ramified clusters. Pseudo-critical phenomena are qualitatively explained from cluster reactions between ramified and compact clusters. In the critical region, compact clusters dominate, and in the spinodal region outside of the critical region, ramified clusters would dominate. This picture is consistent with pseudo-critical scaling, other scaling arguments and computer experiments. Cluster dynamics near spinodals is briefly considered.
