Abstract:
An elastic d-4He scattering is investigated in the framework of the orthogonality condition model (OCM) in which the effect of the Pauli principle is included by projecting out the forbidden states between nucleon and 4He. The distortion effect of deuteron is taken into account, which is considered to play an important role in the course of propagation through the field of target nucleus. To solve the scattering equation a variational method is used. The agreement with experimental phase shifts is excellent with including the distortion effect. The features of the distortion effect and the role of the Pauli principle are clarified. The effect of the breakup of deuteron to continuum states is discussed, and a simple treatment for including the breakup effect is proposed, which is shown to eliminate the spurious resonances.
