Abstract:

The Ward identity of the dilatation current in conformal-invariant quantum electrodynamics is investigated by using nonpolynomial Lagrangian techniques. It is shown that the identity is trivial up to logarithmic terms in the minor coupling constant although the free Lagrangian is not dilatation-invariant. What is called anomalous dimensions of Callan-Symanzik equation have no relation to anomalous scale dimensions introduced by point transformations of the fields. The renormalized Ward identity is independent of both anomalies.
