Exchange-Correlation Effects on the Higher-Order Polarizations of an Electron Gas

Abstract:
Exchange-correlation effects on the higher-order polarizations are studied up to first order in the screened Coulomb interaction for the purpose of examining Brovman and Kagan's effective vertex approximation. For the three-point polarization Π3(q1, q2), their approximation is shown to be valid for large values of momenta q1 and q2 by using the computed result in the Thomas-Fermi screening approximation, where the validity region is limited by the point of Lloyd and Sholl's singularity. The asymptotic analysis for the large momentum values proves to be relevant to the case of the three-point polarization and is applied to the four-point one. A new approximate formula is presented for the four-point polarization.
