Culster Expansion for the Thermodynamic Potential of Simple Metals

Abstract:
A cluster expansion scheme is presented for the thermodynamic potential of simple metals based on the thermodynamic formulation of Luttinger and Ward in terms of the proper self-energy. The obtained expansion proves equivalent to a resummation of the anomalous terms in the simple structural expansion. The contribution from a specific cluster to the ground-state energy is examined numerically, with a particular interest in the role of Lloyd and Sholl's singularity appearing in the third-order perturbation.
