Color Confinement and Asymptotic Completeness

Abstract:

We study color-confinement criteria and the quartet mechanism proposed by Kugo and Ojima. Adopting a special gauge, we find that the criteria are not always satisfied in 3+1 dimensional QCD. Niether the criteria nor the quartet mechanism works in compact (QED)2 + 1 and abelian confinement models. Asymptotic completeness and confinement might be incompatible.
