Pion Scattering by the Nucleon with Breathing Surface

Abstract:

The P-wave pion-nucleon scattering at low and medium energies is investigated by means of the bag model with a breathing surface. A unitarized T-matrix is constructed from the K-matrix which is obtained in the lowest order perturbation. A characteristic feature of the model appears particularly in the P11 channel in which the Roper resonance N(1440) exists. Satisfactory agreement of the phase shift with experiment is obtained by taking into account the ρ-meson exchange process.
