Abstract:
A massive Abelian gauge field coupled with a nonconserved mass-changing current is described within the framework of canonical quantum theory with indefinite metric. In addition to the conventional Lagrange multiplier field, another ghost field is introduced to preserve gauge invariance and unitarity of a physical S-matrix in the case of the nonconserved current. The renormalizability of the theory is explicitly shown in the sense of superpropagator approach for nonpolynomial Lagrangian theories.
