The Hyperfine Splitting of the Nucleon and the Δ33 and the Coulomb Spike Effect

Abstract:

The color Coulomb spike effect, that is, the effect of the color Coulomb force on the shape of the quark wavefunction, is examined in a 3-quark system. The wavefunction with the spike reduces the magnitude of the color strong coupling constant αs compared with the one obtained by the Gaussian wavefunction without the spike, both of which are set to have the same root mean square radius (RMSR) and the same hyperfine splitting. The spike effect is noticeable for the large RMSR but is very weak for the small RMSR.
