Coupling Constant Relations and Effective Lagrangian in the Type I Superstring

Abstract:
The relation between loop expansion parameters gop for open
strings and gcl for closed strings is explicitly determined in
the type I superstring with SO(N) gauge group (N=32 for the
anomaly cancellation). This is translated to the relation between the
gauge coupling constant g YM and the gravitational coupling
constant κ in the effective field theory Lagrangian. It is
found that the compactification on a torus with arbitrary shape and
size does not affect the relation.
