Abstract:
The nucleus-nucleus optical potential is discussed based on the Feshbach projection operator formalism with the use of the semiclassical approximation. The method to derive the optical potential, which has been proposed recently, is extended so as to clarify the physical contets involved in the method. It is shown that the dynamical polarization potential is composed of two parts: One is due to the excitation of one nucleus caused by the Hartree field of the other nucleus. The other is due to the simultaneous excitation of both the nuclei caused by the hard nucleon-nucleon collision. The results are thus closely related to the initial stage of the collision dynamics described by the Vlasov-Uehling-Uhlenbeck equation. The method is applied to the optical potentials for α-16O. The results are compared with the phenomenological optical potential.
