Abstract:

A supersymmetric construction of the Kuhfuss-Nitsch Lagrangian is presented. Such Lagrangian is the most general one for Poincaré gauge theories of gravity which is devoid of ghosts and tachyons. We rely on the observation that the local tensor calculus for supergravity with independent and propagating spin connection developed by Nishino is equivalent to the old superconformal tensor calculus in the Kuhfuss-Nitsch regime where only the standard graviton propagates. In such special case the supercovariant torsion tensor can be gauged to zero and the spin connection can be algebraically expressed in terms of the graviton and the gravitino exactly as in the old conventional supergravity theory.
