Abstract:

From the viewpoint of a new version of corequake model for neutron stars with pion-condensed core proposed in a previous paper, timing behavior of macroglitches of Vela and Crab pulsars is studied, by extending the two-component model of starquake to a new three-component one implying two kinds of neutron superfluids (1S0-type in crust and 3P2-type in core) with different postglitch relaxation times in order of magnitude. We assume that the neutron star of the Vela pulsar with a mass of (1.4 ∼1.6)M possesses a baryonic “solid” core under the combined (neutral plus charged) pion codensation, while that of Crab with a mass of (1.1 ∼1.3)M does not. Postglitch timing behavior can be reproduced in the framework of this model, in addition to the explanation of remarkable differnces between the glitches of Vela and Crab, in such a way that chracteristic features of neutron stars with pion-condensed core are duly taken into account.
