Abstract:

We formulate the energy spectrum of produced particles in multiple particle production, which agrees with existing accelerator data from p=30 GeV/c to √s=900 GeV. Atmospheric diffusion of high energy cosmic rays is calculated analytically under the formulated spectrum, and the obtained altitude variations of hadronic and electromagnetic components are compared with the data of emulsion chamber experiments. Comparison shows that the formulated spectrum cannot reproduce the experimental data, indicating possible production of non-pionic particles in the forward region.
