Long-Time Correlations and Anomalous Diffusion Due to Accelerator Modes in the Standard Maps

Abstract:

It is shown numerically and theoretically that the spectrum ψ(v) of the coarse-grained velocity v_n≡(J_n-J₀)/n for action J_t, (t=0,1,2,…) takes the square-well form; ψ(v)=0 for v_s>v>-v_s and ∞ for |v|>v_s in the limit n→∞, v_s being the stream velocity of the accelerator modes.
