Abstract:
A possible explanation is given for the ferroelectricity in mixed crystals K1-xNaxTaO3 for 0.05<x<0.72. In the mixed state the energy gap between valence and conduction bands becomes narrower due to disorderness. This gives rise to a phase transition through a large cancellation in the ferroelectric soft mode.
