Abstract:

In the framework of a recently proposed approximation scheme for constructing inhomogeneous universes in general relativity, the backreaction of Newtonian inhomogeneities, interacting gravitationally with each other, on the averaged scale factor is considered. It is shown that, while the averaged scale factor grows faster than in a FLRW-universe with the same mean density, the expansion in the direction, where structure preferentially forms, is slower. Comparison of the resulting anisotropy of the Cosmic Microwave Background with observational data imposes upper limits on the redshift, where the evolution of density perturbations gets non-linear. Numerical values are given for a one-dimensional example.
