Chapter IV. Nucleon Superfluidity under Pion Condensation in Neutron Star Matter

Abstract:
Coexistence of core superfluids with pion condensates in neutron star interior is studied for the neutral (π0), charged (πc) and coexistent (π0 πc) pion condensations, for which we adopt the simple model only with the π - N P-wave interaction described in Chapter III. Main points of the results obtained are: (1) Under the π0 condensation, the neutron 3P2-type superfluidity and the proton 1S0-type one can exist with energy gaps of the same order of magnitude as those realized from the normal phase, (2) under the πc condensation, the quasi-neutron 3P2 superfluidity persists although considerable attenuation occurs, and (3) under the π0 πc condensation, the quasi-neutron 3P2-dominant superfluidity can exist without substantial reduction of energy gaps. Emphasis is put on the unique feature that the neutron and quasi-neutron 3P2-type superfluids realized under the π0 and π0 πc condensations are of two-dimensional character.
