Abstract:
Two variational methods are used to calculate energies per nucleon of
asymmetric nuclear matter.
One is the explicit energy functional method, in which
approximate energy expressions are proposed as explicit functionals
of the variational functions.
The other is the two-body cluster variational method.
The numerical results show that, in both cases,
the saturation densities decrease markedly as the proton fraction
decreases.
