Abstract:

Usefulness of the scaling for the space-time coarse graining in nonequilibrium statistical mechnaics is discussed in two respects. The scaling leads to a new expansion of the macroscopic local densities in a small parameter, called the scaling expansion, which enables us to eliminate the underlying sublevel processes varying rapidly in space and/or in time. It is first shown that the scaling expansion gives a systematic method for obtaining kinetic equations from first principles, and secondly that the scaling expansion provides a useful means for studying the fluctuations of the macroscopic local densities in non-equilibrium systems.
