Abstract:

In the framework of quantum chromodynamics and electroweak theory, a remarkably consistent overall picture of long distance physics emerges from the study of equal-time commutation relations involving the charges of underlying symmetry groups. Two well-tested asymptotic ansätze, asymptotic SU(2)L as well as flavor symmetries and level-wise realization of asymptotic flavor symmetry in chiral algebras, are used in realizing the commutation relations. Many seemingly unrelated dynamical selection rules, such as the quark-line rule, |ΔI| = 1/2 rule, smallness of the isoscalar nucleon anomalous magnetic moments and weak neutral current axial-vector coupling constants, etc., are obtained in the process. Moreover, this is achieved in conjunction with reasonable hadron spectroscopy, a correct value of gA(0) and others and many consistent interplay among masses, mixing parameters and couplings, including the successful prediction of electroweak theory, mW = mZ cos θW.
